Testosterone Therapy for Women

You are tired in a way sleep does not touch. Sex went from something you wanted to something you schedule, and you feel guilty about it. The strength you never used to think about now takes real work to hold onto. And every time you bring it up, you hear the same speech: it is stress, it is your age, your labs are normal.

We have heard that speech too. We do not buy it.

Testosterone is not just a male hormone. Your ovaries and adrenal glands make it your entire life, and it runs your energy, your mood, your muscle, your bones, and your sex drive. When it drops, you feel every bit of it. Yet most clinics never think to measure it in a woman. And the men’s testosterone clinics all over Mississippi? Their whole model is built around men. If they have a real plan for women, we have not seen it.

AllureMD is a physician-led hormone optimization practice in Madison, Mississippi, founded by Dr. Lilian Massihi, MD. We care for women across Mississippi by telehealth, built around your life instead of asking you to rearrange it. You are seen from your office, your home, wherever works, with no half-day lost to a commute and a waiting room full of people guessing your business. Every dose is decided by a physician and titrated to how you feel, not to what a reference range is willing to call acceptable.

The symptoms everyone keeps explaining away

Low testosterone in a woman rarely shows up as one loud symptom. It is quieter than that, a slow flattening across your whole life at once, easy to rationalize one piece at a time. Here is what brings women to us:

  • Low libido. Desire that faded for reasons that have nothing to do with your partner. This is the single most studied benefit of testosterone in women.
  • Fatigue that sleep does not resolve. Not tired. Emptied.
  • Strength and muscle tone slipping. Workouts that used to pay off and now do not.
  • Stubborn weight, especially around the middle. Your body composition shifting while your habits stayed the same.
  • Brain fog and flat motivation. The mental dullness everyone blames on stress alone. It often overlaps with menopause brain fog.
  • Low mood and a confidence you do not recognize losing. A diminished sense of being yourself.

Each of these overlaps with perimenopause, thyroid shifts, and changing estrogen and progesterone. That overlap is exactly why they get missed, and exactly why one hormone is almost never the whole story. Which is the entire point of how we evaluate you.

Where testosterone fits, and where it does not

Here is the part most clinics skip. Testosterone is not the foundation of a woman’s hormone care. For most women, estradiol and progesterone are. Testosterone is the powerful, underused piece that other clinics either push on its own because it is profitable, or ignore completely because it is inconvenient.

We do neither. Dr. Massihi reads your entire hormonal picture, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, and the metabolic function tied to all of it, before she recommends a thing. Testosterone goes into the plan when your symptoms and your labs say it belongs, and not before. What you get is a system in balance, not one hormone chased in isolation.

  • Bioidentical, never synthetic. The same molecule your body has made your whole life.
  • Physician-dosed. Dr. Massihi decides every dose. The pharmacy does not.
  • Titrated to you. We treat the woman in the room, not a printout.
  • Monitored. We track your response, use follow-up labs to keep you safe, and adjust as your needs change.

What therapy actually looks like

There is no single way testosterone should be delivered to a woman, which is exactly why a one-size product fails so many of them. The right route depends on you, your body, your labs, and how you respond, and Dr. Massihi chooses it with you. There are good options well beyond the two most clinics default to.

Pellets are the clearest example of what we avoid. A pellet is inserted, and then you live with that dose for months whether it turns out to be right for you or not. It cannot be dialed down. It cannot be taken back out. How is that precision? We keep a hand on the dial the entire time, because the dose that is right for you in month one may not be the dose that is right in month four.

Doses for women are a small fraction of what a man receives. Dr. Massihi adjusts yours to how you feel and uses follow-up labs to keep you safe and guide the changes. That is precisely why this belongs with a physician who stays with you, not a fixed protocol you get locked into. We will walk you through exactly how your therapy works, including how it is regulated, in your visit.

How it works

  1. Discovery call. A real conversation to see if we are the right fit for each other. No pressure, no obligation, no script.
  2. Comprehensive labs and intake. This is where we separate ourselves. We do not run a token panel and call it a day. Because your hormones, your metabolism, and your long-term health all move together, we look at the whole system: your full hormone panel, thyroid, and the metabolic markers most clinics never order, including fasting insulin, hemoglobin A1c, and an advanced NMR lipid profile that sees what a standard cholesterol test misses. We also confirm your essential health screenings, your mammogram and, where it applies, your colonoscopy, are current. Everything drawn close to home at a trusted, accredited laboratory.
  3. Your plan. Dr. Massihi reads the entire picture and builds a protocol around you. Testosterone is in it only where it earns its place.
  4. Guided adjustment. We adjust to how you feel and use follow-up labs to keep you safe and guide changes over time. You will understand every change and the reason for it.

Care that reaches you, anywhere in Mississippi

You should not have to hunt for a clinic that even bothers to check this, and you should not have to drive across town to be seen for it. AllureMD is telehealth-first, so your visits happen from home, wherever you are in Mississippi. Your labs are drawn close to home at a trusted, accredited laboratory. This page is one piece of our broader hormone therapy in Mississippi practice, which cares for your entire hormonal system.

What this costs you, and what it does not

We are a direct-pay practice, and we are deliberately transparent about money, because the way most of medicine handles it is part of the problem. We do not mark up your medications. We do not profit from what we prescribe. We work with independent pharmacies, and we pass your labs through to you at the pricing we have negotiated on your behalf, at cost. We do not make a dollar on your prescriptions or your bloodwork, which is the entire point: it keeps every recommendation about you, and nothing else. We go over the specifics with you on your discovery call.

Frequently asked questions

Can testosterone therapy give women masculine side effects?

At the low, physiologic doses a woman actually needs, this is uncommon. The effects people picture, acne, extra facial hair, a deeper voice, are dose-dependent and tied to doses far above replacement, the kind of dosing we specifically do not do. We adjust to how you feel within a healthy range, use follow-up labs to keep you safe, and move quickly if anything comes up. Voice change in particular comes from very high doses and is not expected with proper replacement dosing.

Does testosterone increase breast cancer risk?

Current medical literature does not show that physiologic testosterone therapy increases breast cancer risk, and some research suggests it may be protective of breast tissue by balancing estrogen’s effect. This is one reason Dr. Massihi reviews your personal and family history before prescribing anything. As part of responsible women’s health care, she also makes sure your standard screenings are current, including your mammogram and, where appropriate, your colonoscopy, before and during hormone therapy. If you are due, getting up to date is part of the care, not separate from it. Your individual risk is evaluated with you, not assumed.

How soon will I feel a difference?

It depends on you and on what we are treating. Many women feel the first lift in energy, mood, and mental clarity within the first few weeks. The fuller effect, including libido, typically builds over about 8 to 12 weeks. Physical changes like strength and body composition take longer and depend on consistent use. And when testosterone is part of a complete hormonal program rather than a standalone, women often feel the difference sooner. This is therapy that is titrated and monitored over time, not a single quick prescription.

Do I need testosterone if I am already on estrogen and progesterone?

Not necessarily. For many women, estradiol and progesterone are the foundation, and testosterone is added only if your symptoms and labs call for it. We build the plan around your full picture, not a fixed package.

Is this just for libido?

No. Low libido is the most studied reason women use testosterone, and the evidence there is strongest. But it also supports energy, mood, mental clarity, muscle tone, and bone strength. We treat the whole symptom picture, not one complaint in isolation.

Do I have to live in Madison or Jackson to be a patient?

No. AllureMD is telehealth-first and serves the entire state of Mississippi. You are seen from home wherever you live, and your labs are drawn locally.

Will my insurance cover it?

We are a direct-pay practice, which is what keeps our advice conflict-free and our pricing honest. We walk you through exactly what membership includes and what it costs on your discovery call, with no surprises.

You do not have to accept a smaller version of yourself, and you do not have to settle for a clinic that never thought to look. If your energy, your drive, and your sense of who you are have quietly faded, and the only answer you have been handed is your age, let’s find out what is actually going on.
